Playposium 2025
University of Denver’s Kennedy Mountain Campus
Red Feather Lakes, Colorado
June 23 – 26
Get ready for a Rocky Mountain High with our most elevated Playpsoium to date!
Welcome to the Professors at Play Playposium 2025!
We are honored and excited that you will attend the University of Denver’s Kennedy Mountain Campus (KMC) from June 23 to 26.
The Playposium format is an ever-evolving process designed to create a connecting, challenging and meaningful experience that interacts with specific people and places each time it happens. That means every Playposum is a unique event. This year’s gathering will be a fantastic adventure. We are delighted you can come out and play.
GETTING TO THE PLAYPOSIUM
We will communicate closer to the event to find out about your plans. There are two ways to arrive at the Kennedy Mountain Campus
Event Bus
Arrive at the University of Denver Community Commons on Monday, June 23, for a 2 p.m. bus departure. We will have staff on hand from 10 a.m. on to greet you, give you a place to hold your luggage, direct you to locations for lunch and give you a place to get on Wi-Fi and wait. The bus ride takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Driving
There are a limited number of parking spaces at the KMC. We will need to know in advance if you will be driving.
Air Travel to Denver
If you are flying to Denver International Airport is the place to go! It’s a major international airport, and you should have no trouble finding reasonable airfare to Denver.
Once you arrive in Denver, there is a light rail available from the airport that runs downtown. From there, you can change trains and travel to the University of Denver Campus. It’s a 10-minute walk from the light rail station, across campus, to where we will load the buses. You can find out more about the light rail here: https://www.rtd-denver.com/routes-services/airport
If you are travelling to Denver on Monday morning, we suggest taking the light rail straight to DU. If you are coming into town before Monday and need recommendations for accommodations, please just let us know!
Climate
If this is your first visit to Colorado, there are a few things to keep in mind! In general, the climate is quite mild. But we will be in the woods! So, plan accordingly.
Weather
June in the Colorado mountains is typically mild, with a chance for short rain showers and lots of sun. That said, the average temp is between 75°F (24°C) and a low of 44°F (6°C). As any Coloradan can tell you, dress in layers! A cool morning can quickly give way to a hot afternoon.
Elevation
The KMC sits high in the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of a little over 8,00 ft (2,500 m). If you’ve never been at that elevation, there are a few things to consider. First, it can take a few days to fully acclimate. The best advice is to take it easy at first, drink lots of water, and watch the alcohol! Likewise, since you are up high, sunscreen is a must. Less atmosphere means more intense sunlight. No Rocky Mountain sunburns, please.
Accomodations
The KMC was originally a Girl Scout summer camp. While DU has improved everything, it still has that camp feel. That means boys’ and girls’ group cabins. Each cabin has one or more rooms with bunk beds, large common areas with simple kitchens, and a shared bath with private showers. The KMC will provide bedding and towels, so you don’t need to bring any.
Meals
We will provide the following meals while you are at the KMC:
- Monday: Dinner
- Tuesday: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
- Wednesday: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
- Thursday: Breakfast
In addition, we will have a beer and wine reception each night and additional snacks available.
Dietary restrictions and needs
The KMC staff can accommodate a wide range of dietary restrictions. We will be collecting your needs closer to the event. If you have concerns before this, please let us know.
Wifi and Phone
Yup, it’s camp, but we are not uncivilized! The entire mountain campus has Wi-Fi access. Phone coverage is very spotty, though.
What to Pack
As we just mentioned, bring layers. It’s easier to adjust to the different temperatures by adding or shedding a rain jacket, a fleece, and a vest than packing a big coat. Just remember: It’s shorts weather during the day, and a coat, hat, and gloves might be in order at night.
Presenting at the Playposium
Do you want to share or lead something during the Playposium? Let us know! We are collecting ideas and interests from attendees using this form:
One thing to keep in mind is that we have a bias for action at this event. That means think about making your proposal interactive, creative and, dare we say it, playful!
FAQS
You can find additional answers here: https://www.playposium.com/faqs
We hope this answers some of the basic questions about the event. We will continue to send you communications over the coming weeks. So stay tuned! And if you have questions, please let us know: hello@profeossrsatplay.org
The Professors at Play Playposiumm 2025 wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of our topline sponsor, Unlikely Collaborators.
Unlikely Collaborators exists to help individuals and communities resolve conflict through self investigation and self-understanding by providing tools and opportunities for Perception Box exploration, expansion, and celebration. The Perception Box is a metaphor that explains how every human alive experiences the world differently depending on the meaning created from past events and encounters.
Playposium 2025 will center the idea of the Perception Box as we explore how to unlock our power as educators and the impact on students, all through the lens of play!
